Social and Environmental Responsibility

In 2024, the Fairmont Monte Carlo was awarded the prestigious Green Globe Certification, the world’s first certification and performance improvement programme developed specifically for the travel and tourism industry. Green Globe helps organisations improve their economic, social and environmental sustainability while being rewarded and recognised for doing so.

The Fairmont Monte Carlo is committed to sustainable growth and places its corporate social and Environmental Responsibility at the heart of its hotel development. The hotel is working on real changes and concrete actions to best support the environment for all.

The primary objective is to become one of the cornerstones of the Principality in terms of environmental preservation by implementing the right practices and positioning itself as an example for all. Below are some of the sustainable development initiatives that the hotel has established in parallel with the efforts undertaken by Accor and the Fairmont brand in the areas of civil, environmental, and social responsibilities. Our strategy focuses not only on sustainable development but also on the social protection of the company.

INITIATIVES

Fairmont Monte Carlo is building a close relationship with the Principality, particularly with the Ministry of Energy Transition. Numerous civic and solidarity initiatives are being implemented. The hotel is committed to adopting eco-responsible practices and sustainable measures to reduce and minimize the impact of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) at the local and global levels. It is essential for us to work with suppliers who share our values and implement them in their daily production processes.

This year, the hotel has achieved the goal of zero single-use plastics by offering products made from recyclable packaging. Furthermore, we provide transfers using electric cars and offer bicycles and electric scooters for use, along with electric vehicle charging stations.

The hotel also uses cutting-edge technology to use the sea to generate air conditioning and heating in its facilities. Thanks to an innovative heat pump, the hotel is revolutionizing its approach to environmental sustainability, while offering guests unrivalled comfort.

Awareness campaigns against food and material waste are conducted among clients and employees. The restaurants offer produce sourced from responsible and local farms, and they recycle compost and cooking oil. Additionally, we offer our clients the option to not have their bed sheets and towels changed daily. This action aligns with our commitment to environmental protection and allows for significant water and energy savings.

Our L’Horizon Rooftop restaurant features a bioclimatic structure over the terrace that offers an ingenious design and promotes natural ventilation, establishing a minimal ecological footprint by avoiding unmeasured energy consumption. This design creates a refreshing microclimate, providing a very pleasant experience for customers thanks to a carefully created thermal cool bubble.

Fairmont Monte Carlo also focuses on child protection by implementing procedures to ensure the safety of all, especially underage guests.

COMMUNITY

The Fairmont Monte Carlo is proud to partner with organizations and associations that share the same values in order to develop sustainable hospitality solutions.

The hotel has made donations of clothing to “Amis du Liban,” bed linens to the French Red Cross for homeless individuals, and furniture donations to its employees. The teams also regularly deliver soup for the Red Cross outreach program.

AWARENESS

To educate employees about new sustainable practices, the Fairmont Monte Carlo offers training programs and ensures a quality work environment with the implementation of rules within the hotel to improve everyone’s surroundings. The goal is to raise awareness and foster a sense of responsibility among employees. Carpooling and the practice of turning off computers and lights at the end of the day are actions that are implemented in the hotel.

TOWARDS AN EVEN MORE RESPONSIBLE FUTURE

Several actions are being taken, to name just a few, such as a shift towards bulk purchasing, the use of biodegradable trash bags, and the installation of automated air conditioning and lighting systems (using home automation).

The hotel aims to obtain the Green Globe label this year.
